A place to talk about recovery

July 21, 2008

Welcome to the first entry of the Cedar Rapids Community Recovery Blog. The hopes are that this space will be used for people with various experiences to share, read, reflect and comment on how the years-long recovery efforts are taking shape in and around the city.

As we all know, historic flooding hit Cedar Rapids, and many more towns and cities in Eastern Iowa, more than a month ago. The impact will be felt for many years. Thousands of homes are destroyed, hundreds of businesses have been displaced, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

With that comes the stories of personal success, all while navigating the many obstacles that arise on the road to recovery. We encourage you to participate in this blog and share those personal accounts for the world to see just how great and resilient the people of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Midwest are in this trying time.

So far, Doug Neumann, president of the Cedar Rapids Downtown District, and Elizabeth Faidley, a 28-year-old wife and mother who lost her home on Sixth Street NW, have agreed to participate regularly in the blog. You can find a short bio on each here.

If you would like to formally be a part of the effort, email Jason Kristufek.
